Don't Leave Me! by NostalgicChills Don't Leave Me! by NostalgicChills
Man, I can't stop making fun of this scene...even though it's my favourite part of the film. Parody what you love, I guess!

Yeah, that pond that Simba looked into to see his/Mufasa's reflection, suddenly disappears when he runs after his dad's ghost. How does he not run straight into it? I know the pond is kind of metaphorical for looking inside one's self, but I'm sure it's physically there in the film's universe too, so...

I apologize for two things:
1. The shitty text. Still trying to get Photoshop to work on my old computer, but to no avail so far. So I had to use a crap free online photo editor, so it looks bad.
2. For not uploading my personal works. I've been very caught up with commissions and other commitments. I highly appreciate all my commissions, but it does leave less time to work on my own stuff. I should soon be more free to fix that! Thanks for your patience!

I honestly forgot about that little pond; in hindsight, Simba should've landed in the water when he sprang forward. Instead, the next scene immediately cuts to a shot of the savanna, when Mufasa's ghost makes its initial appearance. O_o

This picture s funny and is totally a great one to parody. A bit unrelated though, does anyone else find it extremely painful when you realize that if Mufasa could've appeared to Simba like this now, then what was stopping him from appearing to Simba when he was still a cub, recently exiled? Think about it, if Mufasa had appeared to Simba when he had first come to live there in the oasis, after his recently self-exile, and if Mufasa had explained to Simba that he still needed to come back, claim the throne, and take back the Circle of Life, wouldn't that had spared Simba all this trauma? My biggest issue with the confrontation scene is that before we had Rafiki telling him that the past may hurt, but you still need to come to terms with it, only for Scar to manipulate Simba all over again, causing the previous scene to be a bit pointless. Now if Simba had been given years to reflect on his mistake and come to terms with it, then wouldn't he had been better prepared to face Scar? Wouldn't this also had eliminated some tensions in the second film between the Pridelanders/Outlanders seeing as Simba would've grown more maturely and would be better prepared to deal with the situation?

Ok, I went way off my initial statement here. To recap, I enjoy this picture.

Mufasa's ghost is pretty much metaphorical (at least in the first film). Simba lost that side of himself, and only found it by looking within; as prompted by Rafiki. You could argue that the ghost was never there at all, he was just an embodiment of the faith Simba lost. Therefore Mufasa (as a figment of Simba's mind) only knew as much as Simba did about what happened. Think about it. Mufasa's ghost didn't tell Simba anything he didn't already know deep down.

If you're looking at this in a literal sense, Rafiki didn't know that Simba was alive when the accident initially happened; so he couldn't give Simba this vision of his father prior to this knowledge. Rafiki was the spiritual shaman after all, he has the power to reach into the souls of others, but only if he can physically reach them. This was something Simba (nor Mufasa) could do without him it seemed. Which is why Mufasa's appearances in the following sequels erks me a bit, they missed the entire point.
From a film making standpoint, it wouldn't be very smart of them to have Simba's reason for returning be for the sake of revenge against Scar. They needed to make Simba's return noble and brave, not spiteful. Simba returned despite his trauma as a means to push through the pain and do the right thing regardless. That's the whole point of the hero's journey in these coming of age tales.

Alternatively, Mufasa's ghost was inspired by the Burning Bush in the story of Moses, why didn't God tell Moses to free the slaves sooner? I feel they only tell them to when the hero is good and ready to fight. If Simba returned as a cub, Scar would find a way to kill him, even with the protection of the lionesses. Simba also needed to be humbled, he was a cocky child, and could have grown up spoiled like Scar had he not gone through such emotional turbulence and spiritual discovery.

I hope this insight helps a bit, thanks for the comment :)

It’s kind of like in Jurassic Park where the T.rex comes out of its paddock but when it pushes the jeep into the area where it’s paddock was, there a huge cliffside there.
