TOO MANY LION KING THEORIES!!! I was going to try and shove a character representing all of the Lion King theories known to the fandom, but there are just far too many! I believe TLK has more theories than any other TV show or film! I believe this is due to the many plot holes in the trilogy, especially in the second one! So rather than mash all the theories together, i thought i'd focus on the one character with the most theories surrounding him...Scar.
1. Scar's scar theory
I've already mentioned this one in a previous deviation of mine surrounding fan theories, so if you want to know the theory and my thoughts on it, follow the link: nostalgicchills.deviantart.com…
2. Racist/Hitler theory
Yeah, i'm not kidding! Some people out there think that Scar as a villain is racist, why? Why else? Because he's 'black' or has a dark complection. I don't think these people quite grasp Disney's color scheme for Villains as oppose to Heroes, all classic Disney villains are dark in some form (with a few exceptions of course) - some wear dark clothing, others have dark eyes/hair, are dark in skin/fur color etc. It has nothing to do with racism, it has to do with the whole Light vs Dark concept. The Hero is the light, the Villain is the darkness, that's the way it's been for decades! Disney uses color to convey emotions and purpose, nearly every color on a character is chosen for a reason.
The Hitler theory is not as well known, and it refers to only a few seconds in the movie. During Scar's song 'Be Prepared' there's a scene where all of Scar's hyena henchmen march in unison to the song. Some people believe that this scene is a reference to the Third Reich! Scar represents Hitler, and the hyenas represent the Nazi's marching in blind conformity. It sounds ridiculous in theory, but...it could be true. I'm pretty much on the fence on this one. Disney has made Nazi propaganda cartoons in the past, even though that was a long time ago, old habits die hard. It could just be Disney's way of making Scar look more badass, and it worked!
3. 'Scar is gay' theory
This one really amuses me! And it's one that can't be disproved too easily. People make this claim based on how feminine Scar moves/dances during his 'Be Prepared' song. and also on how groomed and neat he is, and how he never took an interest in any female character. The Broadway show tried to fill this plot hole by making Scar try and seduce Nala, but i'm only talking about the film's universe here. And don't jump down my throat and bring up Zira to refute this theory, it was NEVER confirmed that Scar had any real interest in Zira romantically or sexually. And yes, i have also heard about the deleted scene from the first film that depicts Scar flirting with Nala, urging her to be his queen. But this scene was removed from the film; and added to the Broadway musical. So this scene is only semi canon, considering that it didn't make the final cut. Much like Nala's brother Mheetu is only semi canon, since he was deleted from the film earlier in production. So one could argue that this event doesn't exist in the TLK universe.
There is a greater truth behind this theory than you may realise, Disney has a history of feminine or 'gay' Villains. They do so in a very subtle way, they use the method of making their Villains 'coded gay.' Meaning that they have them act Homosexual, but don't ever confirm them as such. It's also known that Scar's animator Andreas Deja is in fact homosexual himself. This does explain a lot.
If you want more details about the topic of 'gay' Disney characters, the Nostalgia Chick on Youtube dedicated an entire episode to it, and she explains it far better than i ever could - so if this topic intrigues you, watch this episode: www.youtube.com/watch?v=qaHm78…
It's only 15 minutes long, and it's quite fascinating!
4. All of Scar's children
You guys...All Scar wanted to do was to kill his brother and nephew, take over the kingdom and spend the rest of his days as a King. Then all you fans went and dumped all these cubs on him without any real proof that they're his at all. I'd be pretty confused too. Of course, to believe this, you'd have to ignore the 'Scar is gay' theory.
NUKA:
Most people do believe that Nuka is Scar's son, and it's commonly used in fan fictions. True, he looks like him...a lot. Same color scheme, black mane, hairy elbows and skinny body structure. But, a few production members of TLK2 state that he isn't Scar's son after all. If you want more information on that, check here: capricornfox.deviantart.com/ar… so, there ya go!
VITANI:
I don't see the connection here, i really don't believe that Vitani is Scar's daughter. She shares no physical characteristics with Scar, except her pointy nose - but she could have got that from Zira. Also her blue eyes is likely to disprove this theory further: Zira has red eyes, Scar has Green eyes, it is extremely UNLIKELY (but not impossible) that the resulting child will have blue eyes. Yes, i know about inheriting certain genes from Grandparents etc. (Please STOP using that as a rebuttle) Despite this, it is still very unlikely that she'll have blue eyes. Besides, remember that this is a Disney world. Virtually all children have the same eye color of at least one of their parents. i.e Simba has the same eye color as Mufasa, Nuka has Zira's eye color, Nala has Sarafina's, Kiara has Simba's etc. Disney makes genetic connections pretty obvious this way. This is why people get confused about Kovu not being Scar's son, considering that they both have green eyes. The reason for this would be the original script where Kovu WAS Scar's son. So, if Vitani was Scar's daughter - Disney would have given us at least SOME indication that it was possible.
NALA:
Oh dear god! I hate this theory! This one comes from a biological standpoint. They say this because when two male lions run a pride in the wild, they each do some part in breeding new offspring. Some other people think that Mufasa is Nala's dad. This plays a great part in the incest theory, because it would make Simba and Nala half brother and sister. And some OTHERS claim that a fan theory character called 'Ni' is Nala's dad, this one topic is nothing but one huge mess! This is a Disney movie people! Disney can have some dodgy morals and issues, but i sincerely doubt that they would include incest in one of their movies. It's just a plot hole, always has been - always will be. So stop fighting about it! Anyways, The Lion Guard TV series has pretty much confirmed that Nala's father is NOT Scar (or Mufasa)...so there you go.
MHEETU:
For those of you who don't know who Mheetu is, he is Nala's little brother. Mheetu was a deleted Lion King character, he was in the original script but they decided to cut him out during the film's early production, along with a bat-eared fox named Bhati. So, in recent years, fans have been writing Mheetu's history, death and origin. And what do you know? You guys gave him to Scar. This theory doesn't bother me, i doubt he would be Scar's if he actually existed in the movie - but i'm fine with people being creative about a forgotten character.
5. Scar's childhood sweethearts and crushes
Another common theory surrounding Scar, is the idea that Scar had a crush on Sarabi and/or Sarafina when he was a cub/adolescent. I have no idea where this theory came from, but it has no canon indication/evidence at all. Honestly, I don't know how this theory became so popular with fanfiction writers and fan artists. Some say it's the sole reason for Scar hating Mufasa and wanting to kill him! And in regards to Sarafina, it's pretty much the reason behind the "Nala is Scar's daughter!" theory. No logic or proof behind it whatsoever. Scar never interacted with Sarafina in the film at all, and the only interaction Scar had with Sarabi; involved him bitch slapping her to the ground! I'm not against people drawing or writing this for the sake of fun; since the backstory of Scar/Mufasa was never shown, but people sometimes treat it as fact...why??

Alas, poor Scar!
Being called a gay, racist Hitler with four kids is not easy you know!
The Lion King (c) Disney
Well, the "All Of Scar's Children" thing reminds me of an old soap called "All My Children".
