**Some people have pointed out that I accidentally made Nala's paws colored in the second panel, and the shading above her nose in the fourth panel is off...my bad. If I were clever; I'd say it was on purpose as a subtle commentary on the many animation errors of Simba's Pride...but no. They're just my mistakes.**

This may surprise some of you, but I'm not a huge fan of Simba's Pride.
Don't get me wrong, it's not an AWFUL movie (it is better than most Disney sequels, but considering 90% of them are horrendous, that's not exactly a triumph), and my inner child could never allow me to HATE this film. But I do have my own problems with it. I honestly don't think it was written very well, and it has more plot holes and continuity errors than I can even count! But what bothers me most; are the character changes, and I don't just mean the colors (although they are really bad).

Nala in the original film was head-strong, tough, stubborn and well...useful. In the sequel however, she really takes a back seat! All she does is stand in the background, occasionally come up to Simba and/or Kiara - say something vague, and then walk away. It's like Disney doesn't know how to write mother characters unless they have intention of killing them later on!

And I'm sorry to moan about this, but why are Nala's (and Simba's) colors so awful?! And by that I mean in contrast to the first movie, I know the creators put a dark filter on the film to make it more 'gritty', but that was a horrible design choice! And the very fact that it was intentional, makes it even worse!

And if you try and defend it by saying: "it's because the characters aged", there are three things are wrong with that statement:

NUMBER ONE: At the end of the first movie, their cub (Kiara) was presented after the Pridelands had time to flourish again. Simba and Nala's colors are normal. As soon as SP starts at that same time frame...WHOA! What the hell happened to your colors, guys?? Even if you believe the Kopa theory (which I seriously DON'T), that still doesn't add up.

NUMBER TWO: Why would aging change their colors that drastically? That makes no sense. Mufasa was old in the first film, and his colors were bright as day, not dark and muggy like Simba's in SP. And Sarabi was pretty old by the end of the first film too, yet her colors were consistently dark, not hideously bleached like Nala's.

NUMBER THREE: Aging doesn't change eye color that much (if at all). Your eyes can't go from a teal green to a bright blue in only a few months from aging. But you know what CAN change eye color like that? Feline Leukemia. And yes, I'm serious. When I first saw SP, I honestly thought Nala was ill when she first came on screen. I thought that's what the film was going to be about, and Kiara was going to be the one to save her somehow. Or maybe she actually was sick and Simba just never noticed.
I hate using the character colors from this movie, but I had to use them here to illustrate my point.

So, since Simba's Pride relies so much on fan theories just to fill the gaps in their plot holes and blunders, here's my new 'head-canon' on this:

"Nala was pregnant, in pain, and getting bored of never having anything to do. Simba was so busy with his Kingly duties, that he rarely paid attention to her. One day, Nala found some marijuana stashed in Rafiki's meth lab. She learned how to 'blaze up', and soon spent the majority of her time doping it up in the cave while jamming to Jimi Hendrix. Because of this, she lost her naturally tanned complexion from lack of sun exposure, and she became grossly pale. She spent a lot of her time sleeping, and would often speak incorrect wisdom...because she was completely baked.
She occasionally shared her stash with Simba, but unfortunately the weed had the opposite effect on him. Rather than melo him out, it made him more paranoid than ever! This is why Simba was so crazy about keeping Kiara safe. The weed also gave him an unexplained urge to constantly (but privately) roll around in thick dirt for the pleasure of it, until his once bright golden coat became a permanent muggy brown color.
All this is also why Kiara is not very smart by her own admission ("I'm may not be brave, or strong or smart") and that is because Nala smoked weed heavily while she was pregnant with her. And she was raised by potheads."

There...how's that?

Yes, I know it's dumb and pointless to bitch about something I can't change, which is why i'm mostly just making a joke out of it. But hey, we all like to complain about something (let's be honest)!
